Under the supervision of the Digital Economy Promotion Agency, Digital Startup Institute is an institute focusing on excellence in promoting digital startup to be an important mechanism in developing and driving the country towards digital economy and entrepreneurial economy. Digital Startup Institute focuses on the development of an appropriate ecosystem for the digital startups to thrive and capture business opportunities in both the domestic and global markets. Key missions include:

  • Development of promotion and supportive measures, facilities, infrastructure, and knowledge to support the growth of digital startups.
  • Development of network between digital entrepreneurs, investors, public and private sectors for business matching, expand market opportunities, and access to source of fund for digital startups
  • Promote the internationalization of digital startups and create recognition of Thai digital startups in the international arena.
  • Study and propose policy recommendation to amend regulations to effectively support the growth of the digital startups.
  • Promote digital startup to access public services and market
  • Promote digital startups’ roles in driving digital transformation
  • Support the development of manpower to be a foundation for the growth and development of digital startups
  • Establish network with both domestic and international organizations to promote Thailand's role as the center of digital startup development in the region.

  1. The development of incubator/accelerator network digital growth to support the development of a digital start-up by using the knowledge and expertise of various agencies ranging from university to leading agencies that are involved in the development of the country's digital start-up namely AIS The Startup, Dtac Accelerator, True Incube, Hubba, Techsauce, and Rise Accelerator
  2. Support students or individuals in the initial idea stage to startup, with up to 400 ideas being supported through collaboration with 10 universities namely Thammasat University, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, University of Thai Chamber of Commerce, Dhurakij Pundit University, Chiangmai University, Khon Kaen University, Mahasarakam University, and Prince of Songkla University.
  3. Promote and support with up to 29 digital startups in the early stage which include individual or business that has been registered as a juristic person for not more than 3 years using digital technology for conducting business in various branches
  4.  Promote and support with up to 14 digital startups in the growth stage which use digital technology in the operation and scalable expansion of business both domestically and internationally.
  5. Promote capacity development of digital startups in the startup stage or those that have been in business for a while but have difficulty growing by focusing on supporting individuals or businesses that are repeatable, scalable, or able to grow at leapfrog through the 8 weeks JumpStart project with more than 30 digital startup mentors, in collaboration with Thailand Tech Startup Association. In 2019, there are more than 300 applicants, with 150 applicants selected for the project.
  6. Promote and support ecosystem of digital startups through area-based regulatory sandbox) which enable testing of product, business concept, and new digital innovations. Initially target at the Eastern Economic Corridor, rules, regulations, and standards are eased which enable digital startup to enter the market at less time and at lower cost and to test product or services from the real environment. Depa issue Smart VISA to those wishing to apply for a temporary non-immigrant visa under the work category of digital industry.
  7. Promote investment in digital startup in Thailand through cooperation with foreign agencies i.e. the establishment of China-Thailand Digital Incubator Center by depa and TusStar, the biggest incubation center in China, whose objective is to promote and support the development of startups in Thailand and China to be able to compete and expand regionally and globally as well as to attract startup investment to Thailand as gateway to CLMV countries
  8. Create the ecosystem to promote digital startups at every growth stage In particular, the go-growth stage, the creation of the global mindset as well as the promotion of business expansion to foreign countries. Digital Startup Institute has therefore developed network with leading agencies in the development of digital startups both domestic and abroad namely Station F (France) Business Finland, and Singapore.
