depa-UNIDO digital transformation survey 2020 reveals the rise of digital technology adoption among Thai industries
24 November 2020 -- Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) is joining forces with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to unveil the survey result on digital technology adoption among Thai industries. Results show that although the majority of industry players in the survey remain in Industry 1.0-2.0, the adoption rate has continued to increase as digital technology gradually taking the lead to drive global economy. This signals a positive sign of Thailand moving forward towards Industry 4.0.
On the vision towards Industry 4.0, Dr.Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President/CEO of depa, revealed in “Thailand: Driving Towards Industry 4.0”, hosted by depa and UNIDO, that over the past3 years, depa has always supported every group of people , farmers, SMEs and community to adopt digital technology and innovation to improve productivity, increase income and reduce cost. In the meantime, depa also incubates Thai startups through various mechanism i.e. tax exemption and investment platform and consulting service for Digital startups, to become a leader driving Thailand towards the digital industry and society. The development of ecosystem through Smart City, for example; sandbox for 5G Application Lab, Cloud Innovation Center, IoT Innovation Center, Ai Lab, Big Data, VR/AR/MR Lab and Software/Hardware, offers an opportunity for Thai Digital startups to develop digital products and services into the market. Meanwhile, Thailand Digital Valley will attract collaboration and investment in deep tech, business matching, knowledge sharing and exchange, with Thai Digital Startups, which will drive the country towards digital economy according to “Thailand 4.0” policy.
To move towards Industry 4.0, this survey came in to provide a baseline for all policy makers to develop a more practical digital economy strategy. While the results indicated that Thai industry players are still at the Industry 1.0-2.0 stage, the adoption trend is upwards, signaling a positive sign of Thailand moving forward towards Industry 4.0. Industry players also voiced their concerns towards Industry 4.0, return from investment in the 4.0 technologies, lack of technology know-hows, and lack of digital manpower. Most needed 4.0 skills include logistics and supply chain management, data and cyber security, and Internet of Things, for instance.
